Synology NAS setup

A step-by-step guide to setting up a Synology NAS DS923+ from hardware setup to software initial setup.

The first thing that I usually do when unboxing a new piece of equipment is to make sure that all of the parts have been shipped and nothing got damaged. Once that is done, I familiarize myself with where things are on the item. Here is a diagram of the Synology DS923+ that is in the manual:

Hardware Setup

The first thing that needs to be done is installing the hard drives. I have chosen four 12 Terabyte drives that are on the compatibility list for this NAS. To remove the drive tray, pull out the drive tray handle in the direction as shown in the image below.

The next step is to load the drives into the bays. Remove the fastening panels from the sides of the drive tray. Place the drive in the drive tray. Then insert the fastening panels to secure the drive in place. I have four 12Tb drives to put in.

Next Steps to setting up your Synology NAS

Now that the hardware is all setup, it is time to configure the Synology NAS.

This is the first part of the set-up and in the next article we will setup the software. I look forward to teaching you more.
